ART centres provide care, support and treatment services to the people who are diagnosed with HIV.  As on June 2016, Tamil Nadu has 55 ART centers (54 + 1 Public Private Partnership-CMC, Vellore). These ART Centres are situated evenly in all districts. Out of these, 23 are in Medical College Institutions, 31 in Government Hospitals and 1 in Private Institution. This includes 1 Centre of Excellence (GHTM, Tambaram), 1 Regional Paediatric Centre of Excellence (ICH, Chennai) and 7 ART Plus Centres( Salem, Madurai & Tirunelveli, Coimbatore, Vellore, Thanjavur, Trichy). These Centres also provide 2nd line drugs to those patients who have failed on 1st line regimen.

Screening for and management of opportunistic infections, CD4 count and other baseline investigations, provision of first line anti retro viral drugs are done at all ART Centres. In addition to these ART Centres, the State at present has a total of 172 Link ART Centres to bring these services more closer to the PLHA. These Centres function as drug dispensing units.

All positive patients are subject to six monthly CD4 testing to know the immune status and assess the progress to treatment.
